PNINA stands for Palestinian National Internet Naming Authority which is responsible for administering and operating the Internet name space (top-level domain ps) for the emerging State of Palestine.

A domain-name represents your organization on the Internet. It is your Internet address which will be used by others to reach your website or to send you email messages. Computers need a certain numeric code, called an IP address (‘Internet Protocol address’) for communication on the Internet. The IP address is a combination of four numbers between 0 and 255, which are separated by dots (e.g. 192.168.10.50). For the Internet user, an IP address is difficult to remember and use and does not have any association with the type of services offered by the domain holder. Therefore, the domain-name system (DNS) was developed to map the difficult to remember numerical codes (192.168.10.50 for example) into names (www.example.ps). These names are referred to as domain-names which are simple to use and provide easy-to-remember address to your organization. The selection of the domain-name can be of crucial importance for the success or failure of your appearance on the Internet. This depends on the nature of your organization or activity .direct domain  “.ps” or .فلسطين , “net.ps”, “org.ps” or “com.ps”  as second-level (charted) domains, For further information on this topic, please refer to PNINA’s Domain Name Registration Policy.

Anyone, Palestinians and non-Palestinians, from businesses to organizations to individuals, can register a .PS domain name.

Domain registration period start from 1 year up to 10 Years from the creation date, the higher registration period, the lower price, check the discount offers with your registrars.

Minimum Registration period is 1 year.

Maximum registration period is 10 years.

PNINA offers 30 days as on-hold/pending deleted period starts from the expire date.
Although the domain will be reserved at this 30 days’ period, it will not be included in the zone file so the website will disappear and emails service linked to domain will be inactive.
In order to renew the on hold/pending-deleted domain you have to restore it first through your Registrar.

Usually at every operation executed at the domain ,you will receive a notification email directed to emails inserted on your domain contact information , so keep an eye open in your emails and contacts, PNINA is not responsible for any failure due to your inactive, old or irrelevant emails.

Yes, you can delete the domain-name registration, port the domain-name registration to a new Registrar , change the administrative and/or technical contacts or change the IP addresses of the primary and/or secondary domain-name servers for that registration. There are no fees for modifying the registration status of a domain-name. The modification should also be done through the certified registrar using the same application form provided from PNINA.

To make sure that your .ps domain-name was successfully registered, please search PNINA whois database for the existence of that name and check the returned information. Also the http://www.checkdns.net web site is a very good site for checking the correct configuration of your DNS servers.

To reach your organization, Internet users will most probably try out names that are the same or abbreviation of the name or function of your organization, e.g. mof for ministry of finance, paltel for the Palestinian Telecommunication Company, etc. Choosing your domain-name in this fashion is always recommended

PNINA maintains a “whois” lookup system where registrants/applicants and registrars can query the .ps database to determine if a specific domain-name is available. This query service is provided by PNINA to users at no charge

You can register your domain through one of PNINA’s Certified Registrars. Check the list of PNINA Certified Registrars to select the one of your choice. Please note that the selected registrar will be able to guide your organization through the registration process, host its domain name and provide this organization with other valuable services (such as web hosting, email services, etc.). PNINA, therefore, encourages organizations to register their domain-names through Certified Registrars.
Technical note: 
If you are registering a domain-name, then, you must provide the IP addresses of the primary and secondary servers that will host this name. These servers need to be always responsive, i.e., always responding to DNS queries and lookups and always active, i.e., 24-hours connected to the Internet. They need to be always hosting the domain. Without these servers always hosting, always up and running, Internet users cannot get to your domain-name. Your website cannot be accessed and mail addresses under your domain cannot be reached. Therefore, it is extremely important that these two name servers always active and responsive for your domain name.

You can register/reserve your domain the same way other entities are registering their domains, namely through one of PNINA’s Certified Registrars.

Contact your certified registrar of choice to check the fees for registering domains within the .ps domain.

It depends on the IP address of the website itself. If the IP address is from a block that is registered under an Israeli (IL) country code, then it will be seen as coming from Israel even though if the hosting company is Palestinian and the website has a Palestinian (.PS) domain name.
Technical Tip:

1. Use any network utility to resolve the “Palestinian”  web site name into an IP address
2. Use http://www.ripe.net/db/whois/whois.html and enter the web site IP address, check the inetnum: section under the country field and you’ll figure out the country that this IP belongs to. (PS for Palestine)
3. Domain filtering may depend on the country code which means a .ps domain name may not be filtered.
4. Another filtering technique is the IP filtering which is used to block all IP addresses that are assigned to a certain country. This means that a country may block all IP-Numbers (or BLOCKS) that are listed to belong to Israel.
5. Some Palestinian web sites are still registered with IL country code IP addresses which may result in their web sites to be blocked even though they have a .ps domain name.
6. Getting a .ps domain name will guarantee that your domain name “will” not be filtered in countries based on the Domain filtering technique but if it is hosted with an Israeli registered IP, it may be filtered anyway.

Your organization. The custodianship/responsibility of domain names are given to the requesting organizations and not their agents (e.g., Certified Registrars).

Sure, this is not the end of the world. You can think of an alternative name (e.g. exampleco.ps, ex-ample.ps, ex-ample1.ps, e-x-a-m-p-l-e.ps or bestexample.ps as an alternative to the registered domain-name “example.ps”) and try searching PNINA “whois” database again.

A domain-name will uniquely and easily identify your organization on the global Internet. By having it, your organization will have its own e-mail and/or web address(es) that are similar to/contain your company name or function
